Piddle Path Improvement Plan

There is an ongoing campaign to improve the ‘Piddle Path’, the existing bridleway which runs parallel to the B3143 following the River Piddle from Rectory Road in Piddlehinton to the church in Piddletrenthide – a total of approximately 2.5 miles.

There are a number of objectives of the Piddle Path Improvement Plan (PPIP), not least of which is the provision of a ‘safe route to school’ (and other points of interest in the community) and a reduction in traffic on roads through the valley. The B3143 through the three settlements of Piddlehinton, White Lackington and Piddletrenthide is narrow, heavily trafficked and there are few pavements for safe access by pedestrians.

LATEST UPDATES

Dorset Council announced in November 2022 that they had secured funding to address specific areas of flooding and drainage on the Piddle Path. This was then withdrawn Spring 2023 as the council had not ‘secured all the necessary permissions’ even though the improvements had first been outlined in the Piddle Valley Neighbourhood plan 2018 and The Piddle Valley Parish Council voted to support the idea in April 2021:

The community continues to petition the Council for repairs and maintenance and urges everyone to report any areas of flooding or deep mud to https://mapping.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/rights…/reportproblem

The Piddle Path is also now supported by the Dorset Transport Action Group (DTAG) which is part of the Dorset CAN (Climate Action Network) Group.
