Thursday Club update

In March we had a brilliant & well-researched talk: LOCAL BOY MADE GOOD! from Jan Burnett on the life of her ancestor, Ralph Wightman, born & bred in this Piddle Valley!

His family lived at Riverside, Piddletrenthide in a cottage, no longer standing and running an adjacent
butchers shop complete with sides of the Best Beef hanging outside! Jan related extraordinary tales of the river’s path sometimes being directed through the shop itself and it’s been told chitterlings were
washed in the River Piddle that same river from which other families drew their drinking water…apparently to no ill-effect!

For further reading on this eminent writer & broadcaster please see REMEMBERING PIDDLETRENTHIDE A Picture Book of Village Memories available from Ivy House in the village opposite the closed Village Shop £20 a copy, or contact Bridget (details at the bottom).

Spring Fayre – Easter Saturday

Our next meeting will be our fabulous SPRING FAYRE held in the Memorial Hall on Easter Saturday 10.30-12.00 free entry and with several stalls selling goodies including cakes & bakes, books, bric a
Brac and games and puzzles.. there’s coffee available …so if you have friends & family descending over Easter this is the place you can take them locally whilst you get on with prepping the Easter meal!

We’re also setting up an exhibition of Children’s Easter Art Work so please bring the little ones along to enjoy creating a portrait of the Easter Bunny!

Donations for the stalls would be very welcome… details to come later.
